Independece = Big Mess

Who has an independent child? I have two!! And I love it. Sometimes it takes longer, doesn't end up how I wanted it, or results in a BIG MESS. Nonetheless this is how they learn (I keep meditating this phrase to myself to maintain my patience and sanity).

Just so I don't forget...

Treks imagination continues to soar... At the ripe age of 2 he often pretends to be a baby, patting at me and making incomprehensible sounds.

Canyon has fallen in love with fishing and has quite a bit of patience... for being only 4. He loves everything about it. Even gutting it. Trek on the other hand names the fish and doesn't quiet embrace the permanence of fishing.

The other day we were visiting Gram's house and Canyon & Gram had this conversation:

Canyon: Grandma, do you know how to make cookies at your house?

Grandma Orina: Yes, I do.

Canyon: pause... Show me.

Canyon and Trek are becoming good friends, making up games, building forts, jumping on the tramp, holding hands, cuddling in bed. Trek idolizes and emulates Canyon and Canyon nurtures and protects Trek.

Canyon stayed up till 10pm reading books in our closet with a flashlight while Trek and I fell asleep in our bed (Gary is out of town for a summer internship-so our sleeping arrangements are sporadic).

Trek's reference to size is identified as baby or daddy. Occasionally he will throw in a brother size, but rarely a mama size.

Trek still considers growling a viable form of communication.

Blowing Air

I stumbled across this "activity." I love the speed at which each boy is pumping air into the others mouth. Funny, maybe not too smart, but cohesive. I let them play this game until their cheek's hurt, which was longer than I thought.

Weekend Getaway

We went to Page...

Gary played in a softball tournoment:

No photos because it was @ night and I was sleeping @ the hotel with the boys, BUT Gary did make it home with a T-shirt!!

We stopped and played on the beach @ Lake Powel:

We went to Antelope Canyon:

(This is my favorite picture, kindly taken by a stranger who emailed it to me.)

Camping @ Ashurst Lake

...in no particular order:

We kayaked, canoed, fished, played, climbed, blew away, hiked, chased dogs, roasted marshmallows and enjoyed each other (Can't wait for next year)!

P.S. Thank you mom!

~The Erviens~

The Ervien's came up for a visit. I twisted their arms and talked them into letting me take their photos at our favorite sunset spot. What can I say about this family except that they are full of energy and fun & I love them dearly!
