Celebrating {my} Saturn Return

As some you you know I love astrology. While talking with my best friend I recently learned about Saturn Return. Astrologically speaking it is your coming of age, one of the most important times in your life... a time of endings and new beginnings. Saturn Return is the first time the planet Saturn completes its cycle through you birth chart and returns to the spot it occupied when you were born. This happens between the ages of 28-30. Today I turned 28. In my reading I have learned that it endows you with prudence, practicality, and the perseverance to work hard toward achieving your purposes. Saturn Return is one of the most crucial turning points you ever experience, when you assume the greatest responsibility of all: responsibility for your own life {disclaimer: as much as I love astrology I only have fun with it--I don't live my life by it}. So this is how I celebrated my Saturn Return...

When questioning me on what I wanted for my birthday I told Gary I wanted to go somewhere warm, by a pool, where I could soak up the sun with my family. And he delivered. He took us to a wonderful resort in Phoenix with warmth and a fabulous pool! We spent the weekend enjoying room service, sunshine and shopping. It was exactly what I wanted.

Canyon enjoying a snack after some hard swimming.

Me and baby Trekker.

Canyon and Gary getting ready to brave the waterfall.

Trek napping in my sarong.

Me baking in the sun.

Trek.

Familia de Kirkman.

Our boys.

My boys in the lazy river.

Canyon at Chuck-E-Cheese. Heaven... sensory overload heaven.

My actual birthday: I got calls from my family (love the blog post Skye) and friends (thank-you, Summer), went out and canned apples and peaches at my moms {YES I really did want to can on my birthday}, and came home to a lovely dinner and a party (where I recieved a super-soaker from my mother-in-law).

Grinding applesauce.

Peaches.

Mom cutting apples.

My cake from Gary. Canyon joined in singing Happy Birthday--which was sweeter than the cake.

And the last thing to make my day the best... Cuddle my sweetie. Thank you Gary for a wonderful BIRTHDAY.

Last night while eating dinner...

...Canyon was being particularly adorable.

So I said to him, "You are an angel sent from God."

He looked at me with a slightly confused face and said "No I not, I Canyon Kirkman. I not God."

Some pictures from the weekend...

Canyon watching the Sweet Corn Parade. I love a stormy summer sky.

Trek and Canyon cuddling up during Saturday's rain.

Kaydence and Canyon light up at the sight of each other. When they are together they laugh and laugh and laugh. It's total sweetness to watch.

Trek bundled up at Big Lake on Sunday.

Gary nursing Canyon's wounds. He cut his lip running with excitement (Gary's Aunt had just given him a container full of marsh mellows).

Tresures & Projects

Project: This is the rocking chair my mom rocked her kids in. She was ready to pass it on so I am looking forward to fixing it up and rocking my babies in it.

Treasure: My Aunt Linda came to visit last month and brought with her some started quilts from my Grandma Pat. I didn't get to know my Grandma Pat. But I did know that she was a very creative person. She made many beautiful things (my mama is one). She made them with perfection and detail. So I decided to take some of her started projects and finish them. I have never quilted before. I barely sew. When my mom, Aunt and I were looking a the started projects I realized I will be able to get to know my Grandma Pat a little. I will be touching things she touched, I will be completing her creations, I will be a part of her treasures. I am overwhelmed, but so grateful.

(My goal: to finish them before I have grand kids...)

For Auntie Skye

(Thanks for giving us the funnest activity of the day--Canyon loved it!)

Trek lately...

He has found his voice... He coos, laughs, whimpers, yells, blows bubbles and seems to find new sounds every day.
~~~~~~~~~~~
He grunts when he is tired. He hates to be tired and this is how he communicates it these days.
~~~~~~~~~~~
He loves to cuddle. Yeah!!! I love to cuddle too.

~~~~~~~~~~~
He plays with his toes and is starting to hold toys.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
He still thinks Canyon is very cool.
~~~~~~~~~~~
He can roll from belly to back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
He kicks and kicks and kicks. All day and all night.
~~~~~~~~~~~
He touches your face when he's nursing or drinking a bottle.
