Finders Keepers

When I bring my groceries in I put the bags on the floor and then go back for another load. Well… Canyon was running around the house while I was unloading. During his exploration of the world he found the strawberries I had just bought. He pried open the plastic container and began devouring the strawberries. And I mean DEVOUR! He could not stop! He was so satisfied! He was not interested in anything else. After he finished one he would move onto the next with out pausing to breathe. Great photo/video op (check out the video at the end of this post). Priceless moment. Big mess. I love this kid sooo much!

Happy EARTH Day! I wanted to remember today so I could do something to honor the Mother Earth I love so much. As I was thinking of something for Canyon and I to do I remembered a few Earth Day type things…

As little girls Summer and I used to spend hours and pages writing about recycling. I am not sure what made us so interested in recycling, but it was on our mind and we had a lot to write about.

My parents used to make us pick up trash, not just ours, but any trash that was around. This usually happened when we were camping or hiking. Thanks MOM and DAD for making me not tolerate littering and not being too proud to pick up someone else’s trash for the sake of the environment.

So as I was remembering these things I thought it would be fun for us to plant a tree. That didn’t work out, but we did dig our hands into the wonderful dirt of Mother Earth and plant some more flowers. One thing Canyon loves it water and dirt. I hope and pray that he will be able to enjoy both for the rest of his life. Having children is motivating to take care of the blessings we have been provided. Here are a few things I am going to work on to be more GREEN…

~Scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher; wash only full loads.
~Sweep outside instead of using a hose.
~Reduce/reuse/recycle: Practice the three R's: first reduce how much you use, then reuse what you can, and then recycle the rest.
~Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.
~Learn more about the household products I have and pay more attention prior to buying (
http://jpd.nlm.nih.gov – a good website I found for this).
~And finally ENJOY it more. Spend more time outside hiking, gardening, playing with the dogs, and just enjoying the miracles of life the earth gives us every day.

The THIRD dollar store

The opening of a third dollar store in Taylor has brought mixed emotions…
At first I thought how much more ghetto can we get than to have a third dollar in a town this small? Is it really necessary? Somehow it seemed to solidify how I feel about living here (not sure I belong)?

Then I embraced it. I am not a big city, high dollar shopper. I always go for the sale rack at any store. I love a good bargain. And I love Dollar Tree! It happens to be my favorite dollar store. Everything is really a dollar. I love going to Dollar Tree with Skye and it was right around the corner from my house in Tucson. So maybe Taylor won’t attract a Target, Costco, or Buffalo Exchange, but we have attracted the best dang dollar store around. And that’s something I think all of us in Taylor should be proud of.

Canyon and I had the opportunity of visiting Dollar Tree yesterday. Here are a few interesting and fun things about the store:

They have an abundance of gift wrapping supplies.
Lots of disposable Tupperware (or tuplewear as Gary calls it).
They sell pregnancy tests (not safe-but better than coming to the ER).
They have everything that you would need for a luau.
Lots of pool toys.
Board books.
Plastic baseball bat and ball that Canyon loves.
Cleaning Supplies.
Cards.
And the list goes on…

So if you are in Taylor, I invite you to visit the dollar wonderland, and just forget that we have two others down the street (I mean literally down the street, they are all within a mile of eachother).

Flowers, Dirt, Water & Wind

Dying to plant flowers, Canyon and I headed to Home Depot at about 7:30 on Saturday morning. I bought too many flowers and a whole bunch of veggie seeds! We planted two flower beds and four pots. Being the good husband he is Gary joined the fun. It was windy and chilly, but that didn’t stop us. Canyon loved the water, the dirt, and the flowers. I can’t wait to plant the GARDEN!!
He couldn't stop picking the flowers.

Most of the water ended up on him.

One Word: HOOD-RAT (well I guess two)

Helping MAMA :)

Flowers that Canyon didn't find. So pretty!

Softball Weekend

Last weekend we enjoyed the beautiful Valley weather. Gary had a softball tournament and Canyon and I finally were able to make it (see Gary I do support your softball fetish). We watched games all day, played in the pool, and ate yummy food. Canyon had his first snow cone. That was a mess. (The real mess came later when Canyon pooped on the floor of the hotel room and it was bright blue. Brings a whole new meaning to always wear shoes or socks in hotel rooms and put a diaper on right when they get out of the bath. A couple of weeks ago Canyon peed in my closet :). Anyways back to our weekend… We had a fun.
