Swimming Lessons

Trek and I did Parent/Tot Lessons while Canyon was in his own Preschool Session. My boys have been fishes since day 1 and this summer has been no different.  Each boy is on the brink of swimming independently. We just need some more pool time and a some more lessons and they'll be on their way!

Downtown Fun

A favorite summertime activity for the boys and I is Kids Squared. It's in downtown Flag for an hour each morning. Sometimes we dance, do yoga, listen to stories, learn new songs, but this day there was bubbles. All kinds of bubbles. Different colors. Different sizes. Different ways to make them. Trek consumed some bubble water on accident (I think), but that didn't stop him from trying every station and Canyon wouldn't give up on his bubble art, returning home with a masterpiece. Fun had by all.  I love this little City and all the fun things for my kiddos.

Picking Apricots

After camping in the Jemez, we stopped by my Dad's place in Albuquerque and picked a bounty of apricots. The trees were loaded and the apricots sweet.
We munched as we picked.
We filled my ice chest in less than an hour.
Working together reminding me of fruit picking as a kid.
Delicious and Fun!
(We did miss Dad, who is still working in WA)

And the CANNING:

This LAND...

This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.

~Woody Guthrie~

The boys and I were at a Downtown activity with a local Flagstaff musician. He taught them this song. All the mama's joined in as our little ones made valiant efforts to memorize the lyrics of one of my favorites. Happy 4th of July, Happy Independence Day. May we always remember "this land was made for you and me."

Adventure Day Returns

After a usually busy month in the Kirkman house we miraculously had the weekend off together. We didn't waste anytime enjoying our neck of the woods. Since we hadn't been home much we didn't venture far from our abode. Just about 5 miles up the Mountain to Snowbowl.
We took the Scenic Sky Ride to the top!
Adventure Day Success.
Family rejuvenated and ready to take on the rest of the Summer.
Hopefully there's be a few more days like this one.
