Hawaiian Vacation Part 5: Lava

Despite skull and crossbones signs with the words: DO NOT ENTER, my Dad escorted Gary and I over 2 miles of lava to see a active lava tube flowing into the ocean. I didn't mind. Seeing lava was at the top of my list for our trip to Hawaii. The lava we walked across was from an active flow 20 years earlier. It was rough, but fragile and so beautiful. After we became closer to the lava pouring into the ocean we could feel the warmth under our feet. We perched on top of some rocks and watched the battle between the lava and the water and watched new earth being created. It was incredible. INCREDIBLE.

Hawaiian Vacation Part 4: Botanical Gardens

A trip to the Botanical Garden near Hilo was spectacular. There was so many beautiful flowers and greenery I couldn't decide where to turn my camera. It also seemed like a wonderful place to take pictures of my lovely family! The rest of the day finished off with a relaxing BBQ with some friends and family.

Hawaiian Vacation Part 3: More snorkeling, the market, the zoo & some music

At the market the boys were dying to get some coconuts to drink the milk.  They were unfortunately disappointed with the taste.  We all found some fun food and some keep sakes. After the market we went out for some more snorkeling.  Trek really loved it this time and was precious. Gary and I went out for a swim and saw a beautiful sea turtle. The ocean life was amazing.  Our camera didn't do it justice. On our way back to my Dad's we stopped by a zoo and walked around for a bit.  Canyon and Trek feel in love with the white tiger named Namaste.  Later that night my dad played some music with friends at a local burger joint. We all slept well that night; the boys didn't make it home before they passed out.

Hawaiian Vacation Part 2: Waterfalls & Swimming Holes

Less than a mile from my Dad's house in Hilo was and oasis; an absolute magical place with waterfalls and swimming holes. On the walk to the falls wild guava fruit lined the trail. We snacked and walked and ended up in a sweet little part of mother nature. Our first round at the waterfalls was a bit terrifying for Canyon.  I was surprised that my little Pisces was so afraid of the water. He was cold and didn't enjoy himself at all.  Gary and  I tried to encourage him to enjoyment, but it wasn't happening. So my Dad, Gary, and did a second trip up to the river and swam and hiked to many different falls while Clorie stayed back with the boys.   It was lovely.
