Brothers for Life
While doing chores this morning I heard Trek and Canyon talking:
Canyon: "Hello, my name is Humpty Alexander Dumpty."
Trek: "Hello, my name is Puss in Boots."
Both boys as they extend their hands for a greeting, "Brothers for life."
Our new favorite movie is Puss in Boots. I smiled and carried on. As they ran around searching for magic beans and sword fighting I felt proud and happy that they're such good friends.
A few minutes later Trek came running out of his room: "Mama, mama, I broke my room."
Walking in I see his curtain and rod ripped from the wall.
Me: "Trek... what were you doing?"
Trek: "I Puss in Boots, I SWINGING!!!!!"
Canyon was authoritatively watching as I scolded Trek and taught him that Puss can't swing from the curtains in our house. After making sure there were no injuries I placed him in time out... Canyon sat near by to console him. Trek gulped down some tears. I sat quietly around the corner to enforce my punishment and listen to their conversation. As Trek told Canyon what happened he could no longer hold back his tears.
Trek: "Brother, I not Puss in Boots anymore. I can't swing."
Canyon: "We can still be brothers for life."

It was a windy, chilly day and a few of us under-the-weather...
But we managed to hike to a tiny waterfall (we were hoping for more):
Found an almost dried up lake:
Searched the clouds for dinosaurs, kissing faces and trains:
And spotted a bald eagle (actually 2!):
So, as it turns out our windy, chilly, under-the-weather day turned out pretty good after all.

Note to self...
This work week went smooth. I credit it to doing nothing but hanging with the boys in the afternoons after I've slept. My house has suffered. It's a complete disaster. Dirty dishes, laundry, and kids. But we've laughed and played and read books. I felt happy and like I did good. I felt like a good mama. Sometimes I don't have fore site to let my house go and feel anxious when it's messy or undone. And I think we all suffer and I feel lousy and I feel like I am not doing good and not being a good mama... So note to self: leave the dirty plates, let the toys clutter the floor, and let the pile of laundry build. Your kids don't care. You don't really even care. And you felt good not doing it! Love your babies, kiss their sweet little cheeks, play monsters and hide and seek, read stories and your heart will be full.
